Routine cleanings and exams are essential to maintaining dental health. For lifelong oral health, you should schedule dental appointments every six months. Your hygienist will clean plaque and tartar from your teeth, and Dr. McEvoy will check for decay, dental damage, and the symptoms of gum disease. When he diagnoses these conditions early, he can treat them before they become more serious.
When bacteria develops below your gum line, you can develop periodontal disease. It is important to address this condition before it causes tooth loss and bone recession. Dr. McEvoy offers several options to treat gum disease. He may perform scaling and planing to remove the pockets of bacteria and smooth your dental roots. Lasers can also kill the bacteria with minimal impact to surrounding tissues. The dentist may also prescribe antibiotics and mouthwashes.
If you suffer from dental phobia, or if you are getting ready for a lengthy treatment, you can benefit from sedation. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation can help you feel relaxed throughout treatment. Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” is administered through a mask placed over your nose. As you inhale the gas, you will become more relaxed. In some cases, Dr. McEvoy may prescribe oral medications to take before you come in for treatment, helping you achieve deep relaxation.
No More Needles, No More Drills! Dr. McEvoy is one of a few Northern California dentists using the new Solea advanced laser technology which virtually eliminates the need for anesthesia and the drill. Most patients treated using the laser report no discomfort, no pain and no lingering aftereffects. By using the new Solea laser, Dr. McEvoy is changing the dentistry and helping to eliminate dental dread.
He performs a number of treatments with these innovative tools. Lasers can reshape your teeth, destroy bacteria, contour your gums, and much more. Laser-assisted treatments are quick and involve minimal discomfort. Lasers provide a level of precision that also results in minimized treatment and recovery time, which means you are back to your day right away.
"I just had 6 small cavities filled in different parts of my mouth in less than 30 minutes with no novocaine. I was able to go back to work without being numb. What an amazing new way to leave the dentists office. Thank you Dr. McEvoy.'
-Michael R., Los Altos

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder is a common condition that can severely impact your quality of life. If you suffer from TMJ disorder, the cushioning discs inside your joints may have slipped out of place. In other cases, the nearby ligaments and tissues may be inflamed. Dr. McEvoy commonly treats this condition with a combination of oral splints and muscle relaxants. Typically, you will wear your custom-made splint at night. It will realign your jaw to reduce pressure on your joints.
Dr. McEvoy offers a number of surgical procedures, including dental implants. He also offers bone grafting to enhance your jaw structure and create a stable base for your implant-supported restoration. A sinus lift is similar, involving the augmentation of the upper jaw to prevent implants from interfering with the sinuses. Dr. McEvoy also performs tooth extractions.
Dr. McEvoy uses the most advanced technology to provide excellent care. To acquire detailed images of your teeth, he uses x-rays, 3-D scanners, and intraoral cameras. He can display the images on exam room flatscreen TVs to help you better understand your oral health. Dr. McEvoy also uses advanced clinical tools to make your treatment more comfortable. We incorporate lasers into many treatments, and use the Wand® STA system to deliver precise, comfortable injections.
